Varieties of Fancy Rats - Agouti

Photograph by Eric Jukes

Agouti (named after a South American rodent, and correctly pronounced "agooti" - and not "agouti" as in "out") is the coat colouring of the wild rat. It is a pattern common in many other species of animals. The Agouti pattern factor is at the root of all varieties. For example, the Black is a rat where only the black colour from the agouti pattern has developed and the agouti pattern factor is missing.
